Summer Must-Dos at Winrock Town Center
What originally started as Albuquerque’s first shopping mall has now developed into a community hub for dining, shopping, wellness, and events. Winrock Town Center, located next to ABQ Uptown, is revitalized and ready to be a part of your summer.
Here are a few must-dos to get un-bored:
Vitamin D Walk:
While it’s not the UNM Duck Pond, Winrock has a beautiful body of water with mini waterfalls, fish and ducks. Surrounding the water is a walking path sprinkled with decorated benches showcasing art from different members of the community. There are also some tables and shaded areas in case you want to do a picnic by the water.
You know no college student excursion is complete without a caffeine stop. Homebody Matcha is a UNM student-owned pop-up coffee and matcha shop with unique signature drinks. They are most known for their matcha lattes, with fun flavor options from banana pudding to blue coconut. But, if coffee is more your speed, Homebody offers espresso drinks as well. This trip around, we got the Berry Cobbler Matcha and the Homebody Latte.
From May to October, the Winrock Town Center park fills with very zen energy. Every Wednesday evening, there is a FREE hour-long yoga session taught by Kaleb A. This event aligns with Winrock’s wellness initiative and is the perfect activity to bring your fellow Lobos along to.
Summer Concert Series and Night Market:
Since you’re all stretched out after Yoga Wednesdays, you’re ready to hit the dance floor for the Friday night concert series. Every week during the summer, Winrock showcases local bands at a free show in the park. We were able to see Los 33 ABQ and El Gozao perform. You can bring camping chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy the music all night long. Getting a shopping itch? Friday nights also mean Night Markets, with dozens of local vendors spread out around the park. And don’t worry, you won’t go hungry during all this fun. Parked on the east side of the town center are food trucks with plenty of food options to satisfy your cravings.
