Along Route 66 – Santa Rosa Blue Hole and Park Lake

With 310 days of sunshine in Albuquerque, it is pivotal to find fun and effective ways to cool off. Well, picture this: a mini Route 66 road trip, a cute New Mexico town and bright blue water that is just 62 degrees year-round.

The Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, is a beautiful recreation site born from a geological phenomenon. Spanning deeper than 80 feet, this site is great for cliff jumping and swimming, and has even become a popular scuba diving destination.

This blue oasis is one of seven sister lakes that reconnect underground. What once was a national fish hatchery has now become the perfect place for Lobos to go on a quick summer getaway.

Looking for more adventure? Just a quarter mile away is Park Lake, which features an inflatable obstacle course, a waterslide, rentable boats, sand volleyball and picnic areas. But be warned, you are guaranteed a wipeout or two, so be sure to bring friends that will first laugh at you, then help you out of the water.

To park at Blue Hole and Park Lake, there is a fee of $15 per vehicle. Swimming at Blue Hole is free and wristbands at the water park are $20 per person, which comes with a life jacket to use on the water.
