New Mexico United

Picture this: You’re watching a soccer match under a beautiful pink and orange sunset. You take a bite of your Dion’s 505 pizza, which has the perfect balance of classic pepperoni with delicious Hatch green chile. You hear the crowd chanting “pobrecito” (“poor little thing”) while waving a familiar yellow flag adorned with a red Zia symbol. You are definitely at a New Mexico United game. Could this get any more New Mexican?

Since 2018, New Mexico United has infiltrated the hearts of New Mexican sports fans. The team is a “uniquely New Mexican blend of Art and Sport, Grit and Passion,” (New Mexico United, Our Mission).

The matches are held on Rio Grade Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park, which is located just across the street from UNM’s University Stadium and The Pit. With affordable ticket prices and home games spanning from March to October, these games are the perfect way to spend a day (or evening) in Albuquerque.

New Mexico United’s slogan, “Somos Unidos”, translates to “We Are United”, a testament to their goal of bringing positivity and community to the state. If you attend a game, you can expect to see a vibrant display of New Mexican culture. The legendary supporter section showcases this the best, with their unique blend of chants, instruments, colors and traditions. You may even be able to spot some UNM flags being waved.
