Carlsbad Caverns

Out in the distant lands of New Mexico, far beyond the snowy white peaks of any mountain or dense green foliage of any forest lies a hidden gem of a national park, a true wonder of the world. No, we are not talking about the world’s largest pistachio but something even greater, Carlsbad Caverns! A long yet pleasant four hour drive from Albuquerque, Carlsbad Caverns National Park offers an experience unlike anything most of us could ever imagine. The park’s well-maintained path allows you to comfortably descend into a vast and beautifully lit space filled with ancient rock formations. It’s a long way down to the cavern’s main chamber, but ascending is as easy as a 5 minute elevator ride up to the surface– making the park accessible to all who wish to spend time there. If you arrive to the Caverns early enough you can sit and watch what the park calls “mass ascension” when all of the bats return to the caves after a night out on the town, it is a magical sight to behold. Though it may be far, we believe that the Carlsbad Caverns should be high on every Lobo’s adventure list!
