There are two types of people who live in Albuquerque: those who have hiked to the Kiwanis Cabin on the Sandia Crest and those who are going to after reading this. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the cabin was built as an inclimate weather shelter for the trail crews that worked to bring us Sandia’s 28 hiking trails that are now used and loved by many. Thanks to the well maintained roads, the Kiwanis Cabin is no further than a 45 minute drive from campus and is accessible at all times of the year – inclement weather or not. Its location on the western facing side of the mountain makes it the ideal place to watch the sunset over Albuquerque and we highly recommend that every Lobo takes the time to check out the iconic Kiwanis Cabin!
