From permanent art and historical installations to the annually held American Indian Week, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center transports visitors to the heart of New Mexico’s 19 Pueblos. Let the sizzling sound of traditional fry bread (a flat dough deep fried then covered in honey), the sight of beadwork and jewelry glinting in the sunlight, and pottery painted in different native styles bring you to the roots of New Mexico. Witness traditional dances accompanied by drum groups and discover stories through paintings, both new and old. Of the many events the Cultural Center puts on, American Indian Week offers one of the best spaces to be immersed in the tradition and history of Pueblo culture – a nice respite for any Lobo looking to immerse themselves in another time and place.
