Angel Fire Shovel Races
Friday, February 17th, 2017 at 4:05 pm

For the past 38 years, Angel Fire Resort has been hosting the most outrageous winter competition in New Mexico—if not the entire country. In early February, the 38th Annual World Championship Shovel Races—shovel as in those unwieldy plastic things used to clear snow—were held at the Resort. Just like it reads, the competition consists of racers speeding down the wondrous Angel Fire Mountain on a good ol’ shovel. The competition is open to all ages for an affordable $10 entry fee. For any winter thrill-seeker this is a can’t-miss event with participants hitting speeds of up to 60 mph. It’s nonstop action all day with intrigue and undeniable comic relief.
